How To’s For A Successful Online Coaching Business
Today’s blog is about setting up your online business. This trend started in the 1990s. Before Yahoo and Google came about it was really, hard to find anything online. I come from a generation where we had to go to the library and do research. These days with the internet everything is a click away. Especially with the current pandemic every business is trying to find ways to go online. I know a jeweller who for 40 years have been running their retail store. With the pandemic last year they were forced to create an online presence and created their e-store.This pandemic had forced people to go online and what better way for us as coaches to make use of this opportunity.
My relationship coaching business has been fully online from day one. I live in Malaysia and have clients from every part of the world because all my work is online. That is the greatest thing about your online business – the world is your oyster. However, having and running an online business is not for everyone. Read this blog to find out if this is what you really want to do
Having an online business gives you flexible working timings – you can decide when and where you want to work for. Unlike the 9-5 grind, you don’t have to be forced to “show up” at work every day, uninspired and forced to work. You can work from anywhere in the world. All you need is a smartphone, iPad, laptop or desktop and a wifi connection and viola you have a business ready! Yes, it is actually that simple. I have worked from Santorini while on a holiday and even from my spiritual retreat Chiang Mai. I have literally worked from every part of the world and that’s the beauty of this business. It also gives you the flexibility of working less hours and focusing more time on maybe the children or pursuing your passion. If you want to take off on a Tuesday you can simply do it and don’t have to be accountable to anybody except yourself.
Another great thing about an online business is the cast exposure you get. The eyeballs on your business is more than a thousand times. Facebook has 2 billion users – and if you advertise on Facebook alone – you would have that much more exposure than having an office space. Like I said, I am based in Malaysia, but I have grown my business all over the world with students from Australia, Bangkok, U S and even Singapore.
Another great thing about working online is the time you spend travelling from one client’s place to another. Imagine how many billable hours is that! Coaches get paid by the hour and if you are working online, you can move from your 9 am appointment to your 10 am appointment instantly! You don’t have to even rent an office! Really to start off, you could work from home. So besides saving time, you save money on rental too! I don’t pay rental and save a lot of money and time on transport as well. As a new coach, trust me these savings are massive to give you a head start.
Another great thing your online business is you get to be creative and innovative with the way you communicate with your clients. You can see what is comfortable for you. There are many options these days from messaging, voice calls, video call or emails. You get to choose your most preferred method.
Flexible working hours
When I first started out, I was working very erratic hours. I used to work at 5 am which 3 pm in LA on certain days. Well I just started out, so I needed to get as many clients as possible. Of course now being in the business for 7 years, I have set a pattern that works for my clients as me. I prefer to work with clients 3 times a week and pack all my appointments on these days. I leave the other four days to work on other parts of the business like administration, sales and marketing. As an online coach, you have to be flexible if your clients live on the other side of the world. Initially when you are starting off, you need to accommodate them as much as possible. Remember they are paying you. Of course, don’t go out and inconvenience yourself, but as much as possible, try and make the sacrifice here to be there for them.
One important quality you need to have when you run your own online business is discipline and organisational skills. You need to always show up for your business. As an entrepreneur, especially an online entrepreneur, you need to be disciplined and organised in how you run your business from acquiring clients, marketing yourself and setting up your sessions with your clients. Though there can be flexibility in your routine, you aren’t working in an office with preset deadlines, a
routine and maybe a supervisor telling you what to do. You need to get targets and deadlines for yourself. Your lunchtime could be two hours today because it’s your birthday or you could decide to take the whole week off and go on a holiday. Or you could work 20 hours a day because you feel motivated on a particular project or have a deadline to meet. Organisational skills, discipline and planning will be your biggest ally in your business. For some people, this is hard because they simply can’t get disciplined. Once you put your mind to it, you can set your business up in a simplified automated process.
You have to constantly post on social media about your business. You have to let people know what you are doing. You have to create awareness. This is not something you do once in a way- this has to be done all the time, everyday. Creating an online presence takes a lot time. People’s attention span these days is only three seconds – yes three seconds. Everyone’s mind is too cluttered and it stays merely three seconds before moving to something else. If you want clients, you need to be in their face all the time. Introverts find this hard to do, but this is the only way you will get people to notice you.
Getting creative in the way you advertise is going to grab people’s attention. You need to learn how to market and advertise your business online in a fun and interactive way. This is how people will notice you. There are many tools available online tools from interactive WordPress templates to Canva to help you get as creative as possible. As an online entrepreneur, you have to find your own clients, and finding new clients is never easy. You can’t run a long term business hoping your old clients will come back or you will keep getting referrals. You need to attract new clients and stand out from the crowd. There is no magic formula to this. It is work. Being creative will stand you apart from the rest. You are going to be fully in charge of deciding what you work on, how you design your sessions and how your clients get value from your work.
Setting up a business is daunting, especially a totally new online business. Besides having a plan of action and getting certified, you must be confident and positive in how you run your sessions. You must have a mentality of abundance. You must also have a magnetic personality so that clients are drawn to you and look forward to their coaching sessions. Look at Tony Robbins, for example. He is one of the most successful coaches of all times. Many people like him because he’s simply got this magnetic personality. He started his life as a janitor. Many people dabble in online coaching as a career and unfortunately, a number of them do not succeed because they don’t have the right mindset for success They do not have confidence. They take the wrong actions and can’t deliver. To their clients. You might be an expert in your niche. You might totally understand what relationship coaching is about. You might have learned all the modules. You could understand everything about the akashic records, but this is not enough if you do not have the right mindset You are not going to make it big. You are going to struggle. The good news is mindsets can be developed. If you learn how to develop confident and a magnetic personality, you can make it big.
When you start your own online business you need to ask yourself these three questions. 1.What income do I want each month? Keep in mind, important expenses you need to make sure to cover.
2. How many hours do I want to work on my business?Would I like to work four days a day? Would I like to only work 20 hours a week? How many free days would you like to have in a week?Whatever suits your lifestyle, put that down keeping in mind your family life and personal goals.3. What kind of contribution do I want to make to this world? What do I want to add to this world? How do I want to add value to my clients? Write down the answers in full to these questions. These are your goals. The first one is your income goal. The second one is your lifestyle goal. The last one is your contribution goal. When you set these goals and achieve them, you would have a successful online coaching business that is fulfilling.
Having goals and discipline and creativity is great but without the right knowledge, you won’t be able to achieve any of this. In DARCI’s 10 week program, you will be well-equipped to start your business. You would develop the right mindset. You would learn the right intuitive skills to help your clients in their relationships. You will also have sufficient knowledge to run your online business.
Before you start building your reputation in this competitive online marketplace, you need to learn how to stand out and be unique. How do you create your edge? How do you actually stand out? You need to deliver solutions that really make a difference. Using the Akashic records as a healing tool to help people in their relationships, you would immediately stand apart from the rest. Your work would be phenomenal. Your solution would be totally different from what traditional relationship coaches offer. This is what the unique edge you would provide your clients compared to other coaches.
Make your offer so irresistible and make a commitment to make it valuable to your client. As long as your clients are benefiting, as long as their bad relationship get better and their happiness and satisfaction in their relationship improves, you will be successful. Do everything to make your client happy and offer value. Value, value, value to your client. That is the most important thing! When you have solutions to their problem, you will be in a very strong position to charge as well. Never forget that the solution you provide will make a difference to your client’s life. If they feel your solution is effective, they would come back at any price you want them to pay you.
We all want our business to be perfect. Sometimes we chase so much perfection, we are scared to even start our business. I usually ask my students to launch their business in week 4 or 5 of their course. The easiest way is to simply set up your Facebook page and start creating awareness about your business. It is actually that simple but everyone wants to be a perfectionist. You don’t need a fancy website that causes a fortune and months to develop. You could simply have a Facebook page which is simple and professional. Having a fancy website is the icing on the cake which doesn’t really change anything in the beginning. Take action. There’s no need to be perfect.
Your support network is right here. The whole DARCI family is here to give you the support you need., Use the Facebook community. Ask your mentors. Ask me. I have gone through a really difficult time setting up my business – I know the process. So please, don’t go through the pain – reach out no matter how much you think you know, no matter how much of an expert you are in your niche already. There is always something that you might be unsure of. Please make sure to use your support network.
Follow the process
Your coaching clients are looking for you to provide them with solutions and your objective is to be the solution provider. When people are paying you top dollar for your advice, they expect you to be on the ball and give them what they want. We have a list of protocols to follow for new clients, so follow the process. You have to ask them questions to find out about their relationship. You need to get a good understanding of what they want, their intent is very important. The first thing you get all your clients to fill up in the relationship happiness metric( RHM) to find out how happy they are. With that and their intention, you will get a good understanding of their pain points and what they really want. Do your work before your coaching call and be well prepared. There’ll be times when they’ll ask you questions that you don’t have answers to. Well, when that happens, you need to tell them you honestly don’t know the answer, but you will find it and come back to them. You need to also manage their expectations before the session starts. The processes and certification will add accountability and credibility to your business as well. Once you are certified, clients can trust you.
Coaching is a two-way street. The onus is on you to provide the solutions to the clients and they will then need to take the action. So only if they’re willing to work hand in hand with you, will this work. Most people want their relationships to work and are willing to do anything to make that happen – they just need you to support them on the journey. You have to be empathetic – more so because it is an online business, you can’t really see your client. Try and understand how they are feeling and support them in whatever way they want. Be committed to help them with their journey. If they are having an emergency andif I’m not inconvenienced by it, take their calls and give them the support they need. This is not school and you’re not a teacher who’s going to put them in detention if they don’t do their work right.
Try and use video calls whenever possible, because when you have a video call with a client that really creates a strong connection with them. Nowadays, there are many free options available – from Skype to WhatsApp video calls, Zoom and FaceTime. You pick up visual clues during a video call you can’t pick up during a voice call or email. For example, if you’re discussing a high level concept, you will easily be able to see if your client is confused – her eyes will rolling and you will know right there she is switching off when you’re explaining it. So you can straight away check with her and confirm whether she understood what you said. It is never good for your clients to leave a session being confused or not sure what was happening.
Be responsive outside your coaching session. Be available to your clients anytime they want. I believe in being available 24 hours a day. Like I said, don’t inconvenience yourself but be prompt to reply their emails and messages and make them feel comfortable to reach out to you anytime they want. They would appreciate this promptness.
How does all this sound to you? Are you ready to take the plunge and start your own online business today?
